2/3/2012 - MISAWA AIR BASE, Japan  -- Misawa City Police officials showed their gratitude to the 35th Security Forces Squadron at the Hotel Grand Hill, Jan 26, for their efforts in reducing incidents in the local community and their support following the Mar. 11, 2011 earthquake.

Chief of Misawa City Police Station, Shigeki Sasaki, presented the 35 SFS with a letter of appreciation. Maj. Leo Martin, 35 SFS commander, accepted the letter on the squadron's behalf.

"We have cultivated a strong and everlasting bilateral relationship with our Japanese National Police counterparts both on a professional and personal level," said Martin.

In a speech given by Chief Sasaki, he thanked the 35 SFS for their continued efforts in reducing incidents in the Misawa community.

During 2011, off-base incidents involving Status of Forces personnel dropped 25 percent, a testament to the hard work and emphasis military members and their dependants are making to be good ambassadors.

Certificates of appreciation were also awarded to Kouko Matsukura, 35 SFS interpreter, and Masami Ikoma, 35 SFS liaison, for their individual efforts in supporting the JNP mission on a daily basis.

"We will continue our efforts to further reduce incidents through our town patrol program and our strong relationship with the JNP," said Martin. "We just ask that people to think of the consequences of their actions before deciding to act."
