Commanders and senior enlisted leaders assigned to the 35th Fighter Wing practice calligraphy during a team building event at Misawa International Center, Misawa City, Japan, Aug. 14, 2023. Japanese calligraphy, known as Shodo, was heavily influenced by ancient China’s calligraphy, Shufa. The shape, size, and type of hair in the brush as well as the pressure, inclination, and direction, all effect the boldness and smoothness of the strokes.
