Patriot Day Retreat Ceremony

A bell is rung to symbolize the ringing of the “last alarm” during the Patriot Day Retreat Ceremony at Misawa Air Base, Japan, Sept. 11, 2020. The “last alarm” is the firefighter’s tradition of sounding a bell at the end and beginning of a fire. It is also sounded for those who made the ultimate sacrifice, symbolizing their tasks are completed, their duties well done, and to signify they are “returning to quarters.” This is demonstrated by the sounding of three short rings, three times.
