U.S. Air Force Staff Sgt. This Komatsu ATR is unique because it is in concurrence with Keen Sword -- an exercise held once every two years to test the way U.S. and Japanese ground, air and sea forces work together. KOMATSU AIR BASE, Japan -- More than 120 Airmen from Misawa Air Base, Japan's14th Fighter Squadron and 35th Maintenance Group temporarily relocated to Komatsu Air Base, Japan, in support of Aviation Training Relocation program operations. Misawa's pilots and maintainers are on hand at Komatsu to practice and evaluate the coordination procedures and interoperability elements with the Japan Air Self Defense Force. ATRs provide an indispensable field training environment for enhancing mutual understanding of each country's tactics, communication protocols, procedures, and general interoperability.
