More than 800 Japanese and Misawa Air Base runners will participate in Race the Base half-marathon, 10K and 5K events Sunday, starting and finishing at the Friendship Gate and American Park area. In preparation for the event, the Friendship Gate will close to vehicle traffic at 12 a.m. Sept. 26 and will reopen at 6 p.m. Sept. 27. Therefore, SOFA members who park between American Park and Friendship Gate Friday night must move their vehicles by midinght. SOFA vehicles parked in this area during the closure period will be towed at owner's expense.

The Levitow Gate will open to accommodatetraffic during the Friendship Gate closure. On race day, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., base members should expect major traffic delay on base and while entering from off base. Falcon Drive traffic will flow one-way, clockwise, around the base, and the other lane will be dedicated to runners. Drivers must follow traffic control personnel directions and watch for runners. Traffic to Security Hill will be limited to official business.
