Misawa cools off with A/C turn on Published July 15, 2013 By Airman 1st Class Zachary Kee 35th Fighter Wing Public Affairs MISAWA AIR BASE, Japan -- For the first time here, base residents can turn on portable air conditioning units in base housing and dormitories as approved by Col. Matthew Dana, 35th Fighter Wing vice commander, July 15. While given this privilege for the peak summer months, it is important to keep in mind the rules that come with the ability to use A/C units. · Only one unit is allowed per residence and it must be a floor standing model with excess heat exhausted via a flexible duct, through a window or door fitted with a kit. · The base Housing and Dorm Management offices will provide a list of makes and models that meet the minimum requirements. · It's critical not to exceed one unit per residence as excess use could lead to loss of A/C for the entire base due to limited electrical capacity. Due to a capacity limitation, A/C will not be supported in Dorm 539. Base leadership is working on a fair allocation policy for this dormitory along with options for increasing capacity. Failure to comply with the guidelines will lead to the loss of A/C in your unit, possible UCMJ action, and or loss of on base housing privileges and housing allowance.
