The month of March includes one nationwide observance and three local events offering attendees opportunities to continue building partnerships among their Japanese neighbors.

Hinamatsuri “Girls Day”
Date: Sunday, March 3,  2019

March 3rd is known as Doll Festival or Girls’ Day. The nationwide event celebrates girls among Japanese families, wishing daughters’ good health and happiness. The highlight of this event is a display of beautiful hina dolls. Families can also enjoy foods including chirashizushi (raw fish and vegetables on rice), ushiojiru (clam soup) and hinaarare (sweetened rice crackers).

Asamushi Mobile Aquarium at the Misawa Aviation Museum

 Come see fish, jellyfish and sea angels at the Misawa Aviation Museum.

 

Misawa City Ice Arena’s ice skating rink
Date: August – April, 9 A.M. – 4 P.M. (open to public) / 4:15 P.M. – 11:15 P.M.(group use only)

Free admission, every Saturday, for elementary and junior high school students who reside in Misawa City. Skate rental is not included in admission. The schedule is subject to change due to events.


Tatehana Wharf Morning Market
Date: Every Sunday, March 17 – December 30, Sunrise – around 9 A.M.
Location: Tatehana Wharf, Hachinohe City (GPS: 40.528503, 141.527650)

The event has more than 300 booths selling sea products, local vegetables and fresh bread.
