MISAWA AIR BASE, Japan --

During the month of November 2018, five Misawa Airmen received nonjudicial punishment under Article 15, Uniform Code of Military Justice. Two Airmen received honorable discharges and three Airmen received discharges under honorable conditions. One Airmen received a courts-martial. Commanders used the following as a means of punishment, rehabilitation and maintaining good order and discipline.

 

Nonjudicial Punishments (Articles 15):

 

A senior airman with the 35th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron received an Article 15 for assault and battery for striking another Airman with his fists. The member was punished with reduction to the grade of E-3, restriction to the limits of Misawa Air Base, Japan, for 30 days, and a reprimand. 

 

An airman first class with the 35th AMXS received an Article 15 for multiple offenses. Specifically, this member committed an assault and battery by striking another Airman with his fists, used disrespectful language to Security Forces and violated a no contact order. The member was punished with reduction to the grade of E-2, suspended reduction to the grade of E-1, restriction to the limits of Misawa Air Base, Japan, for 45 days, and a reprimand.

 

An airman first class with the 35th AMXS received an Article 15 for assault and battery for striking another Airman with his fists. The member was punished with reduction to the grade of E-2, restriction to the limits of Misawa Air Base, Japan, for 30 days, and a reprimand.

 

An airman first class with the 35th AMXS received an Article 15 for assault and battery for kicking another Airmen in the head and body on multiple occasions. The member was punished with reduction to the grade of E-2, restriction to the limits of Misawa Air Base, Japan, for 30 days, and a reprimand.

 

An airman first class with 35th Medical Support Squadron received an Article 15 for pushing, kicking, punching and strangling his wife on multiple occasions. The member was punished with reduction to the grade of E-2, suspended forfeiture of $918 pay per month for two months subject to the additional conditions of completing the Family Advocacy’s Anger Management Course and Change Step Course, and a reprimand.

 

Discharges:

 

A staff sergeant with the 14th Fighter Squadron was involuntarily separated for failing four fitness assessments in a 24-month period, and received an Honorable service characterization.

 

A staff sergeant with the 35th Aerospace Medicine Squadron was involuntarily separated for Failure in Alcohol Abuse Treatment, for his refusal to comply with the recommended level of care and his unwillingness to cooperate with the treatment plan, and received an Honorable service characterization.

 

An airman with the 35th Civil Engineer Squadron was involuntarily separated for Drug Abuse, for the wrongful use of cough and cold medication, and received an Under Honorable Conditions (General) service characterization.

 

An airman with the 35th AMXS was involuntarily separated for Drug Abuse, for the wrongful distribution of prescription medication, and received an Under Honorable Conditions (General) service characterization.

 

An airman basic with the 35th CES was involuntarily separated for Misconduct: Minor Disciplinary Infractions, and received an Under Honorable Conditions (General) service characterization.

 

Courts-Martial:

 

An airman first class with the 35th Maintenance Group pled guilty at a summary court-martial to four specifications of misconduct. Specifically, the member pled guilty to a charge of destruction of private property in violation of Article 109, and committing and assault and battery on his girlfriend on multiple occasions in violation of Article 128. The member was sentence to 45 days hard labor without confinement, reduction to the grade of E-2, and forfeiture of $1,224 pay per month for one month.
