For active duty Airmen looking to serve our country in a different capacity, the Air Force Reserve wants you!

Master Sgt. Venita Miles, the Pacific Air Forces in-service reserve recruiter, tends to all Airmen assigned to Yokota, Misawa, Kunsan and Osan Air Bases. Her duties entail providing one-on-one counseling sessions in person and via telephone to educate, assist and mentor Airmen in making the transition.

The first option offered to Airmen is the Palace Front program. This program allows Airmen who have reached the end of their enlistment to smoothly transition from active duty into the reserves without a break in service.

The second program, Palace Chase, allows Airmen to transfer to the reserves before completing the entirety of their active-duty enlistment. Airmen looking to take advantage of the Palace Chase program would first need to complete at least half of their enlistment to be eligible.

“Everyone has their reasons for wanting to transition from active-duty to the reserves,” said Miles. “I just want to give them knowledge about everything there is to know about the transition with hopes that they will make the best decision for themselves and their family.”

Having these programs in place help Airmen decide if they want to continue their career as an active-duty service member or pursue a civilian career while still being affiliated with the Air Force part-time.

“I kind of heard about these programs through the grapevine,” said Senior Airman Francisco Espinosa-Melendez, a Kunsan American Forces Network broadcaster. “The recruiter enlightened me of various options and clarified them, instead of hearing false information from others.”

Submitting an application for these programs is simple. It takes approximately 30-45 days for an approval if submitted with no missing documents.

For anyone at Misawa interested in information or assistance with Palace Chase or Palace Front applications, contact Miles at 315-225-6388 or venita.miles@us.af.mil or attend her briefing at 3:00 p.m. Aug. 9 in the enlisted club gray room.
