Wild Weasel of the Week: Tech. Sgt. Christopher Bedics

Each week a member of the 35th Fighter Wing is selected as the Wild Weasel of the Week. This individual is recognized based on superior performance, outstanding work ethic, and overall good conduct and discipline.

The Medical Support Squadron chose Tech. Sgt. Christopher Bedics, a laboratory technician, as their Wild Weasel of the Week.

What is your daily mission?
My daily mission is to ensure the proper collection, processing, testing and resulting of patient specimens. I verify the accuracy and precision of the results we report to the facility's providers that are used to treat our war fighters, their dependents and other Department of Defense employees.

What do you enjoy about your job?
Being able to see and give a quantifiable result to what is going on inside the human body.

Why did you choose to serve in the Air Force?
It was the best option out of all the services.

What is your favorite thing about living in Japan?
This is a new country for me and there are so many places to explore.

Who has been your best mentor and what have they taught you?
Capt. Michelle Perez. She has given me new eyes for performing quality assurance duties and has really challenged me in the "attention to detail" game.

How long have you been stationed at Misawa?
Two years

How long have you been in the Air Force?
10 years

What goals do you want to meet while at Misawa?
Finish my degree and apply for a commission.

What goals do you want to meet during your Air Force career?
I would like to eventually work at U.S. Army Medical Research Institute for infectious diseases or another government-run reference lab.

Supervisor's comments on why you were selected:
"Tech. Sgt. Christopher Bedics has been the backbone of the lab during a 50 percent manning shortage. He played a significant role in both the laboratory's College of American Pathologists and the Food and Drug Administration accreditation inspections. Having a "can do" attitude throughout it has helped keep our staff and the department running with positive energy," said Capt. Michelle Perez, 35th MDSS clinical laboratory flight commander.
