During a trip to an off base waste management facility, Misawa Air Base Airmen and families were shown the process for trash collection by the 35th Civil Engineer Squadron environmental flight. Japanese waste management contractors separate trash and recyclables by hand into categories like: Combustible, non-combustible, metal, plastic, glass and paper products, all of which are stored in clear plastic bags, available at the 35th CES self help shop. The 35 CES plans to emulate the way the Japanese recycle and manage trash. (U.S. Air Force photo/Airman 1st Class Patrick S. Ciccarone)
