Top enlisted rank turns 50

MISAWA AIR BASE, Japan -- Misawa Air Base's newest chief master sergeants, Chief Master Sgts. Phillip Easton and Suzanne Talbert, light the chief master sergeant candle during the Chiefs' Recognition Ceremony Dec. 1 at the Collocated Club. This date holds special significance because it was Dec. 1, 1959, when the first 625 chief master sergeants, called "Charter Chiefs," were promoted to the new rank created under the Career Compensation Act of 1958.
