A Tasty New Misawa Tradition

Misawa Air Base, JAPAN -- Team Hersheys makes an appeal to the judges at the first Misawa Donburi Contest at the Misawa Civic Center Nov. 27, 2010. Teams consisting of U.S. and Japanese citizens competed to create a new recipe for donburi, a traditional rice-based Japanese dish. Out of five competing teams, Team Hersheys was voted the winner by a panel of judges consisting of community leaders including the mayor of Misawa City, the Commander of the 35 Fighter Wing and the Commander of the Misawa Naval Air Facility. Each year, the city holds several community events as part of Misawa's Japanese-U.S. cultural exchange program. (U.S. Photo by Captain Darrick B. Lee/released)
