CDS Stresses Yard Work Safety

MISAWA AIR BASE, Japan -- If not used properly, lawn and garden tools can be hazardous and sometimes deadly. The U.S. Consumer Products Safety Commission estimates more than 400,000 outdoor garden tool related accidents per year end in emergency room treatment. There are millions of minor gardening injuries a year, with 100,000 of those being severe and lawn mower related. Using common sense and taking time to search the yard -- before mowing -- for any object hidden from sight and making sure no one else is in the working area while mowing is a necessary precaution.
