Misawa Air Base Celebrates 32nd Annual Air Fest
MISAWA AIR BASE, Japan -- A Miss Veedol aviator cleans the propeller after the 9:00 a.m. flyby here Sept 4. The Miss Veedol was the first airplane to fly non-stop across the Pacific Ocean on October 5, 1931. The Japan Air Self-Defense Force (JASDF) and the 35th Fighter Wing, with associated tenant units, hosted more than 100,000 attendees at Misawa's 32nd Annual air fest. Air Fest 2011 was an opportunity for visitors to see eight aerial demonstrations with 19 static displays of JASDF, U.S. Air Force, U.S. Navy aircraft and private operators. Air Fest 2011 also marked the last flight of Miss Veedol, a single engine aircraft that in 1931 flew non-stop across the Pacific Ocean from Sabishiro Beach, Misawa, Japan to Wenatchee, Washington, U.S. (U.S. Air Force photo by Master Sgt.
