Joel Malone 35th Fighter Wing vice commander Misawa Air Base will host the 20th Annual Japan Day April 7. This one-day, free event takes place at Edgren High School from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Japan Day introduces the base community to the cultures and traditions of our host nation. Exhibits and cultural demonstrations are scheduled throughout the day. You'll see a collection of samurai weapons and armor, bonsai plants, carved wooden masks and kimono dresses. There will also be demonstrations of taiko drummers, martial arts, Japanese dance and archery. Finally, it's not too late to volunteer to help with the event. If you would like to volunteer, please call Capt. Mischa Johnson at 226-6018. Misawa is a wonderful location for many reasons - starting with our Japanese hosts. Not only will you gain a better understanding of the Japanese culture, but also a sense of the partnership that we share with our host nation. I'll see you there.
