CMSAF holds Senior Enlisted Leader Summit Week of Aug. 1, 2007 - Aug. 8, 2007
Chief Master Sgt. of the Air Force Rodney J. McKinley convened the first-ever Senior Enlisted Leader Summit last week at Maxwell Air Force Base, Ala., Gunter Annex, with more than 360 senior enlisted leaders in attendance from around the Air Force and the globe.

According to Chief McKinley, the summit was long overdue and afforded senior enlisted leaders a forum to discuss the challenges and opportunities facing Airmen today.
The leaders discussed training for and fighting the global war on terror, as well as topics such as quality of life, education and strategic communication.

"Bringing command chief master sergeants, career field managers, professional military education commandants and other senior enlisted key position chief master sergeants together improves communication between these groups and allows us to focus more closely on the Top 3 Air Force priorities and many areas affecting Airmen and their families," Chief McKinley said.

The enlisted leaders attended numerous briefings and panel discussions, including a Major Command commander panel and a panel discussion with seven former Chief Master Sergeants of the Air Force.

In addition:
- This was the first time a summit like this has been held with the wide array of senior enlisted from the Total Force spectrum of active-duty Air Force, Air Force Reserve and Air National Guard.

- More than 600 attendees commemorated the Air Force 60th Anniversary with uniforms past and present, performances and speeches, as well as a celebration of the 40th Anniversary of the Office of the Chief Master Sergeant of the Air Force, by focusing on the career highlights of each of the former Chief Master Sergeants of the Air Force at a Heritage dinner.

- To demonstrate the importance of fitness, more than 400 senior enlisted leaders, led by Chief McKinley, participated in an early-morning formation run and followed up with a full day of athletic conditioning.

- The enlisted leaders dedicated a convoy gun truck at the Gunter Annex Enlisted Heritage Hall.
