Misawa kicks off ORE

MISAWA AIR BASE, Japan --  Phase I of an operational readiness exercise kicked off Jan. 23, 2014.

An ORE is a series of simulations split into two phases to test Airmen's ability to perform their daily responsibilities in a simulated deployed environment.

Phase one consists of moving cargo, transporting equipment and gear, and processing through the personnel deployment function line.

The PDF line process starts in the 35th Logistics Readiness Squadron's supply warehouse, where Airmen are issued their mission oriented protective posture gear and have their finances and medical records processed before attending a pre-deployment briefing.

The 35 LRS, Force Support Squadron, and Comptroller Squadron all work together to ensure Airmen are prepared for upcoming deployments.

"The exercise puts you in a wartime mindset," said Master Sgt. Alex Arias, 35 LRS supply quality assurance evaluator. "You gain experience going through the processing line, so when you do it for real, you're not so apprehensive - you know what to expect."

The 35 LRS prepares for the ORE by ensuring MOPP gear is serviceable and their warehouse is prepared for the numerous in-processors.

"They have a very meticulous job, and it has to be executed perfectly," said Arias. "They're not done when everyone else goes home. Their job never stops."

The exercise is scheduled to continue until Jan. 30.
