Each week a member of the 35th Fighter Wing is selected as the Wild Weasel of the Week. This individual is recognized based on superior performance, outstanding work ethic, and overall good conduct and discipline.

The 35th Communications Squadron chose Senior Airman Zachary Weisel, knowledge management operations base knowledge manager, as its Wild Weasel of the Week.

What's your daily mission?
Supervise and manage data and knowledge-sharing services and support all base personnel with the Enterprise Information Management (EIM) system and collaborative tools (SharePoint, Task Management Tool, Evaluation Management System).

What do you enjoy about your job?
I enjoy everything. I come to work every day and provide customer support for really great people. Sometimes, I walk away at the end of the day having learned something new about my job. My work is basically limited to mine and the customer's imagination, so it almost has no restrictions.

Why did you choose to serve in the military?
My father and brothers were a part of the military, so I wanted to follow in their footsteps. I'm currently supporting over 13,000 personnel, which is something I never saw myself doing or believed to be possible.

What is your favorite thing about being in Japan?
There are honestly too many things I love about Japan to have only one favorite. If I had to choose, it would be the land itself. I met my wife here, I've climbed Mt. Fuji and I've met some amazing people.

Who are your favorite mentors and what did you learn from them?
Tech. Sgt. Jessica Taylor and Staff Sgt. Lindsay Seay. These two individuals have not stopped giving me their wisdom and knowledge since the first day we met. All of my work knowledge is based off the example they always set for others on and off duty.

Time in Misawa:
3 years

Time in military:
4 years

What goals do you want to achieve while in Misawa?
I had a lot of goals when I came to Misawa and I still do. Thinking back to why I joined the military, my biggest goal continues to be "do something great," and being in Misawa provides the perfect opportunity for me to do just that.

Supervisor's remarks:
"When I first got to Misawa, Senior Airman Weisel was the one to show my family and I around and was a gentleman from the start. The one thing I admire about Airman Weisel is that he is always willing to learn new things. He never takes "no" for an answer and always finds a way to make things better in our office and around the base." - Staff Sgt. Lindsay Seay, 35th Communications Squadron knowledge management operations base records manager.
