Each week a member of the 35th Fighter Wing is selected as the Wild Weasel of the Week. This individual is recognized based on superior performance, outstanding work ethic, and overall good conduct and discipline.

The 35th Maintenance Squadron chose Airman 1st Class Jonathan Wilson, precision measurement equipment laboratory technician, as its Wild Weasel of the Week.

What's your daily mission?
My mission is to provide support to the base through proper calibration of a wide range of electronic and mechanical test equipment.

What do you enjoy about your job?
There are many aspects of my job that are great. I am learning skills that will apply to most anything that I will do in the future and everyone is very supportive in my unit. When I decided to join the Air Force my goal was to work with electronics, and this job has far surpassed what I imagined I would have been doing.

Why did you choose to serve in the military?
I chose to serve to give my wife and me a better life, not only now, but in the future. I was in a place where I needed direction, and joining the Air Force has definitely put me on the right track to succeed in life.

What is your favorite thing about being in Japan?
My favorite thing about Japan would have to be the mountains. I grew up in Illinois, so this area is like nothing I'm used to.

Who is your favorite mentor and what did you learn from him/her?
My father is hands down my favorite mentor; he has always been incredibly supportive of my decisions. Since I was just a little guy, he has always reminded me to be proud of everything I do, take ownership of my mistakes and instilled in me a strong work ethic. I wouldn't be who I am today without the advice, love and support of my dad.

Time in Misawa:
1 year

Time in military:
1.5 years

What goals you want to achieve or meet while in Misawa?
I am currently working on my CCAF in Electronic Systems Technology and I'm only one class away from completing it. After that I plan to attend college. For my job, ultimately I just want to be successful. I'm very close to finishing my upgrade training, so I'm excited to see what this next year has in store for me.

Supervisor's remarks:
"Airman Wilson is one of those Airmen that NCOs fight over. He has excelled since day one, and everybody wants him in his or her section. He is extremely bright and is always looking for the next task to learn. His maturity and attention to detail are always on display. Through his actions, he is already a leader for other Airmen to follow. We have no doubt he will find the success he strives so hard for -- most likely sooner rather than later." - Master Sgt. Christopher Knowlton, 35 MXS PMEL chief
