Wild Weasel of the Week: Airman 1st Class Edgar Fernandez

MISAWA AIR BASE, Japan --  
Each week a member of the 35th Fighter Wing is selected as the Wild Weasel of the Week. This individual is recognized based on superior performance, outstanding work ethic, and overall good conduct and discipline.

The 35th Civil Engineer Squadron chose Airman 1st Class Edgar Fernandez, firefighter, as its Wild Weasel of the Week.

What's your daily mission?
Life safety, fire control and property conservation. We put the wet "stuff" on the red stuff.

What do you enjoy about your job?
The adrenaline rush I get when responding to emergencies, especially during reports of smoke or fire.

Why did you choose to serve in the military?
I chose to serve in the military because I wanted to take on the challenge, as well as travel and see the world.

What is your favorite thing about being in Japan?
The local nationals are my favorite part about being in Japan. They are kind and fun to work with.

Who is your favorite mentor and what did you learn from him/her?
My supervisor Staff Sgt. Heil is my favorite mentor. I learned to stay calm during emergencies and even through day-to-day life situations just from watching him as my crew chief. He taught to look at the brighter side of things.

Time in Misawa: 1.5 years
Time in the military: 2.5 years

Goals you want to achieve or meet while in Misawa?
I want to become a crew chief (team lead).
