Misawa Airmen participated in a series of events held in support of Holocaust Remembrance week April 11-17. The Holocaust was the persecution and murder of approximately six million Jews and five million non-Jewish victims by the Nazi regime. The Nazis believed Germans were "racially superior" to the Jews, who were deemed an alien threat to the so-called German racial community. As a result of this discriminatory belief, Nazi Germany established about 20,000 camps to imprison its many millions of victims between 1933 and 1945. In order to show respect and to honor the victims of this tragedy, Holocaust Remembrance Day was established as the annual commemoration of the Holocaust in the U.S. The Week of Remembrance is held in conjunction with this annual memorial.
