In 1962, President John F. Kennedy signed a proclamation designating May 15 as Peace Officers Memorial Day and that week as Police Week. In commemorations, Misawa's 35th Security Forces Squadron hosted a series of events as part of Police Week, honoring Law Enforcement professionals across the globe.

The 35 SFS hosted strength and endurance challenges, a retreat ceremony to honor fallen defenders, as well as other public events. For the retreat ceremony, U.S. Navy and Japan Air Self-Defense Force members also joined Airmen to pay respect to those who have given the ultimate sacrifice defending their country. On average, one law enforcement officer is killed in the line of duty somewhere in the United States every 58 hours. Since the first known line-of-duty death in 1791, more than 20,000 U.S. law enforcement officers have made the ultimate sacrifice. The 35 SFS thanks all those who participated in commemorating law enforcement personnel and helping plan the week-long events.
