Representatives from Headquarters Air Force and the Air Force Personnel Center visited Misawa AB, July 15, to share information on the recent Enlisted Evaluation System and Weighted Airman Promotion System changes.

During the briefing, EES/WAPS subject matter experts spoke about changes that have already been implemented, those slated for implementation, and on the reasons and philosophy behind the changes.

"This is one of the most significant changes to the enlisted evaluation and promotion system in a generation. So, we feel it's important to bring this information directly to commanders and Airmen and allow them to ask questions and get immediate answers from the experts," said Maj. Gen. Peggy Poore, AFPC commander.

Master Sgt. Shavahn Erby, 35th Medical Group training manager, who attended the briefing armed with numerous questions for the AFPC experts, said she enjoyed how the briefers explained the new changes in a way that was easy to understand.

Erby said she was excited to hear one of the changes to the new promotion system was a heavier emphasis on a person's duties.

"I want to rate a person on their job performance rather than significant self-improvement or community involvement because those could be different for each person," said Erby. "I think it is also very important to future members because they will be graded on how well they do their job - which is what we are paying them for."
