The incessant wind chill pierced their skin as Misawa pilots and maintainers prepared F-16 Fighting Falcons for takeoff during phase II of operational readiness exercise Beverly Sunrise 16-03.

The second phase simulated personnel deploying to Kadena Air Base, Japan, and had them conduct contingency operations as if they were there.

Maintenance Airmen inspected the F-16s for damage, checked their intake and exhaust, serviced tires and ensured all oils were at the appropriate level and consistency. After a mission brief and acquiring the proper equipment, pilots performed pre-flight checks on the aircraft before climbing into the cockpit and taxiing down the runway.

The training provided through this rapid generation of aircraft is vital in ensuring the preparedness and the ability of 35th Fighter Wing Airmen to deploy and fight at a moment's notice.
