Office establishes Straight Talk Center to help disseminate information Published Feb. 13, 2007 By Staff Sgt. A.C. Eggman 35th Fighter Wing public affairs MISAWA AIR BASE, Japan -- The 35th Fighter Wing public affairs office recently established a straight talk center to help disseminate information to the public. The straight talk center can be accessed by dialing DSN 226-7867. It's a one-way communication tool established to provide callers with information on major disturbances, events and to help dispel rumors circulating throughout the base or community. The center is activated when directed by the 35th Fighter Wing commander. When directed, public affairs will research a specific subject and record a message with the most accurate information available. "This will be one more tool for us to use in a situation where communication is vital," said Capt. Teresa Sullivan, 35th Fighter Wing public affairs deputy. "If you combine this with our online news service, AFN radio and TV, the Commander's Access Channel and e-mail, we cover all of our bases and reach out to our audience." "The straight talk center is not to be confused with the commander's hot line," said Master Sgt. Brad Sprague, 35th Fighter Wing public affairs superintendent. "When activated, the straight talk center is a dedicated information station with a separate phone line the public can access 24/7 to get reliable information about a specific event or incident. It's like having another body in the public affairs office that can assist in getting the word out to the base populace when they need it most." When the straight talk center is not activated, callers will hear a standard recorded message. Personnel will know when the center is activated by tuning into the Commander's Access Channel, channel 13, or by listening to AFN, 1525 AM.
