As of Oct. 15, all members of the Misawa community can enjoy free aerobics classes at the base fitness centers.

Previously, the majority of the classes were free only to active duty members.

"Free classes are an important morale, welfare and recreation item and something that reaches all segments of the population," said Jason Vandenberg 35th Services Squadron fitness center facility director.

The fitness center offers between 25-30 classes per week, including spinning, yoga, floor aerobics, cardio kickboxing and "boot camp." Classes are offered Monday through Saturday, from 5 a.m. to 7 p.m.

"Attendance has gone up about 25 percent since classes became free," said Mr. Vandenberg, who encourages people to participate. "Aerobics are a great opportunity to improve cardio vascular training as part of a diversified physical fitness program. They allow you to learn new exercises in a fun directed environment with lots of other people."

More changes are coming to the Misawa fitness center.

"Over the winter months we will be offering a lot of great new classes and have introduced a lot of new equipment to the program, including 15 new indoor cycling bikes and new resistance training equipment," Mr. Vandenberg said. "We have added an introductory class for members enrolled in the Health and Wellness Center's Healthy Living Program, and will add exciting new formats for members participating in the third annual Misawa's Biggest Loser contest in January."

Class schedules can be found at www.35thservices.com, or at the Potter and Freedom Fitness Centers.
