More than 20 forms of art were put on display for judging at the Lunney Youth Center here for the 2008 National Fine Arts Competition Dec. 10.

Sponsored by the youth center, this popular competition allows youth up to 18 years of age to submit their drawings, sculptures, paintings and collages for a chance to win a national competition. The winning artwork will leave the perimeters of Misawa Air Base and compete against other artwork throughout PACAF.

"This competition allows the kids to be creative with what they do," said Ms. Kimberly Alston, the recreations supervisor at the youth center.

"I truly believe we have the most talented kids in the Air Force at Misawa," said Ms. Jade Schuler, 35th Services writer and editor of marketing and publicity. "They are lucky to be able to show off their talents here."

The kids can enter into numerous categories but not in the same category more than once. They can work on the project throughout the year to allow them enough time for effort.

"I try to look for work that is original with a lot of effort," said Ms. Schuler, who is also one of the judges.

Members of the staff judge the artwork and come to a final conclusion together.
