Recognized recently as an award-winning squadron for a base in its class, the 35th Services Squadron brings home the Pacific Air Force Command's Major General Eugene L. Eubank Award for 2008.

The announcement was made in February by PACAF, and started a chain reaction which led to the visit of a team of evaluators who recently reviewed the facilities for the next phase of the nomination.

Four inspectors toured the base as part of the Air Force level award process. These inspectors were here to see first hand just what unique services Misawa provides to its armed forces and families, according to Misawa's assistant marketing director.

Making Misawa the career highlight for those who serve here is the goal of the services squadron, according to Maj. Patrick S. Sollami, the 35th SVS commander, who said it takes a team effort to reach this goal.

"It's a great deal of teamwork, commitment and ingenuity that goes into this effort," the major said. "And, all members of team Misawa played a role in this significant achievement."

Some of the noteworthy accomplishment that earned Misawa this recognition were the 32 base engineered fitness programs that met the needs for more than 600,000 patrons and the role the 35th SVS played in preparing for the PACAF Operational Readiness Inspection. Other areas of importance included the youth sports programs, increased club profits, and improvements to quality of life initiatives like Cafe Mokuteki and Aomori projects.

"The award is a great morale boost for the Services team," said Mrs. Terra Erb, the assistant marketing director. "The award reiterates that our efforts are not in vain, and that our dedication shows everyday through the interaction with our customers."

The Major General Eugene L. Eubank Service Award was established in 1990 to recognize the excellence of services squadrons.

The results for best services squadron in the Air Force will be announced in late May.
