Less than a week after 35th Fighter Wing officials gave winter weather driving safety briefings to more than 4,000 base members, Thursday they launched their 14th annual "Tie One On" safety campaign against drinking and driving.

"We schedule the Tie One On campaign at this time of year because of the increased potential for DUIs following Christmas and New Year celebrations," said Col. David Stilwell, 35th Fighter Wing commander.

During the campaign, Misawa Air Base's commanders and supervisors will speak directly to their squadron members while tying a small, green ribbon on the member's car radio antenna.

"It's a great opportunity to pass along holiday greetings while reminding our personnel to drink responsibility," said Col. RC Craig, 35th FW vice commander. "We will tie on thousands of green ribbons this week as a visual reminder for our personnel to think before they drink this holiday season."

"Every individual is a valuable member of our Misawa Air Base Team," Colonel Stilwell said. "We do not want to lose a single member of our team, ruin a career or negatively impact our relationship with the citizens of Japan, due to an alcohol incident."
