MDG staff completes inspection Published April 13, 2009 By 35th Fighter Wing Public Affairs MISAWA AIR BASE, Japan -- The staff of the 35th Medical Group demonstrated an impressive level of readiness and clinical proficiency during not one, not two, but three inspections conducted here April 6-10. "This has been a very complicated inspection process with more than 1,500 areas examined in an extremely thorough manner -- from facilities to communications to health services," said Col. Guillermo Tellez, 35th MDG commander. "The inspectors left nothing unchecked, and came back with nothing but good things to say about the performance of the 35th Medical Group staff." Throughout the week, nine Air Force Inspection Agency Health Services inspectors evaluated the group's readiness, two civilian Joint Commission evaluators performed a clinical inspection and awarded the group another 3-year national accreditation, and one Air Force Radioactive Material evaluator performed a no-notice inspection. The AFIA inspectors rated the group with a score of 92, which is the highest level of excellence achievable. "A 92 is an outstanding score" the colonel said. He added that the last time AFIA rated any medical facility as "outstanding" was in 2004. "We came close (this time)." Colonel Tellez added one of the two JC inspectors, who has scrutinized more than 500 medical facilities worldwide, considers the 35th MDG as one the best she's seen in a long time. "Our daily inspectors are our patients," Colonel Tellez said. "The AFIA Inspectors and JC surveyors who were here this week just validate the great work and the awesome care our Misawa Medics provide."
