Japanese will have the opportunity to experience "American Carnival" during the 22nd Annual American Day scheduled for June 6 and 7.

American Day is hosted by the 35th Fighter Wing, in cooperation with the Misawa International Center, and is designed to provide the local Japanese community with a taste of American culture.

"This is basically our answer to Japan Day," said Maj. Wes Hales, 35th FW chief of wing inspections and American Day project officer. "The Japanese shared their culture with us then, now it's our turn to share our culture."

The two-day event will feature 36 food and vendor booths representing different U.S. states. Local bands and artists, including an Elvis impersonator, are scheduled to perform throughout the weekend. Outdoor activities will include dunk booths, a bouncy castle, train cars and demonstrations by the explosive ordnance disposal robot and military working dogs. Guests can head inside and check out the variety of indoor activities such as a haunted house, cooking demonstration and Native American display. There will also be games of basketball, volleyball and tug-o-war between the Americans and Japanese. Static displays of the U.S. Air Force F-16 Fighting Falcon and Japan Air Self-Defense Force F-4 will be set-up as well. Guests shouldn't forget the large parade Sunday featuring classic cars, motorcycles, Junior R.O.T.C. members, U.S. Navy personnel and bands. For the first time in American Day history, the festivities will include a flyby from two F-16s.

Americans and Japanese are encourage to come out and enjoy the festivities with their family and friends.

"This is the only chance a lot of people get to rub shoulders with the Japanese on purely a social basis," Major Hales said. "It's tailored to the Japanese, but it's something Americans love. And the parade is always fun for the kids."
