Using various equipment and systems, including radar, satellite, computer-based model outputs and real-time observation, the 35th Operations Support Squadron Weather Flight provides weather forecasts to Misawa's war fighters.

The 35th OSSWF's primary job is to support the base's flying mission. They detect weather factors such as clouds, wind direction, relative humidity, sea fog and sea surface temperature, which affect the capabilities of aircraft.

Working with the Japan Air Self-Defense Force, the 35th OSSWF and JASDF Weather units are able to keep their weather data systems consistent. The flight issues base weather watches, warnings and advisories.

"It is essential to know the weather to be the most effective in planning missions," said Staff Sgt. Tina Kay, 35th Operations Support Squadron Weather Flight weather forecaster. "The 35th OSSWF provides 24/7 weather forecasts for wing planning, whether it be for planning community relations events or for pilots going out to fly in the ranges."
