U.S. Air Force Lt. Col. Tony Jarry, Command Post chief with the 35th Fighter Wing from Misawa Air Base, and a Phenix City, Ala.-native, oversees command post operations.

"Thanks to the well-trained Airmen in the Command Post, we were able to respond quickly to get the word out through our Giant Voice system and the Commanders Access Channel to ensure 100 percent accountability of Misawa personnel," he said.

"The Command Post goes through scenarios every shift to prepare for situations like the one that occurred here in Japan," Colonel Jarry continued. "My command post reacted like it was second nature. All their training kicked in gear the moment the earthquake happened."

Colonel Jarry is stationed in Japan and is currently supporting Operation Tomodachi, which kicked off at the request of the Government of Japan to support humanitarian relief efforts for those affected by the 9.0-magnitude earthquake and the resulting tsunami that devastated the northeastern coastal region of Japan March 11.

The operation is a combined effort between American forces and Japanese officials and is part of a broader U.S. Government effort to support Japan's request for humanitarian assistance.

"Both Misawa Air Base and the local community share such a great relationship, the bi-lateral cooperation just happened," Colonel Jarry said. "Between the Japan Self Defense Forces, local community leaders and Team Misawa, we worked through language barriers to provide a shining example of what bi-lateral relationships ought to be."

"Being an Engineer and Acquisition core guy coming from a flight test background, I asked to be a part of Team Misawa to experience this side of the fence," he said. "It's amazing what a well greased machine can do under great leadership."
