Airmen at Misawa Air Base, Japan, recently finished an Operational Readiness Exercise May 1 that tested the 35th Fighter Wing's ability to deploy.

"Exercises keep us ready to deploy and execute our wartime missions," said Lt. Col. Gregory Kreuder, 35th Fighter Wing Inspector General. "They give our entire wing a chance to step out of our daily routines and get out there and practice what we'd be doing during actual combat operations."

During the ORE, Airmen were tested on many personal duty requirements and more, said Kreuder. Airmen were tested on proper wartime techniques according to the Airman's manual and local policies as well as having their sense of urgency.

"We need to train like we fight," said Kreuder. "If we react properly to enemy attacks we will save lives while continuing the mission."

Airmen were challenged to prepare for deployment, process cargo equipment and personnel at Misawa during the first part of the exercise. Airmen proved they could deploy downrange, set up a base and operate in a combat environment.

"The scenario events are intended to be challenging," said Kreuder. "If Airmen know their job and maintain a positive, mission-focused attitude, they will fly, fight, and win."
