Misawa F-16 aircraft goes down in North Pacific Ocean

An Air Force F-16 Fighting Falcon aircraft went into the water at about 11:30 a.m. today approximately 250 miles Northeast of Hokkaido Island, Japan.

The aircraft was from the 35th Fighter Wing, Misawa Air Base, Japan. One person, the pilot, was on board; efforts are currently underway to retrieve the pilot.

The aircraft was en route to North America when the incident occurred. The cause of the incident is unknown at this time.

Officials will investigate the incident.
