On Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2012, the Misawa Security Operations Center hosted the first Chief Warrant Officer 4 Brian Lawter Memorial Run in honor of the late CW4 Lawter, former Intel Oversight Officer at the MSOC, who died from a heart attack at age 50. Lawter, a dedicated runner, frequently ran the perimeter road around the base.

More than 150 Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and civilians gathered at Reese Road to tackle the twelve-mile run to pay tribute to Lawter's legacy. At 6:30 a.m., participants took their respective spots and started their journey around the base perimeter. To complete the run, teams were comprised of two and four people; however, some opted to complete the run solo.

"I was just trying not to stop," said Senior Airman Joshua Formanek, 373rd Support Squadron life cycle management technician. "It was worthwhile and a great cause, so that thought pushed me through."

The run helped raise more than five-hundred dollars that was donated to the American Heart Association. The AHA is a non-profit organization that promotes cardiovascular wellness and heart attack prevention.

"This was an enormous way to honor Lawter," said Chief Warrant Officer 2 Ryan Manninen, 708th Military Intelligence Detachment executive officer. "I am extremely grateful that the MSOC dedicated this run to commemorate his legacy. Kudos to those who put this event together and made it a success."

Despite some teams completing the grueling course later than expected, they all crossed the finish line. It was a true testament to Lawter's motto: "Bottom line is...we gotta get it done!"
