MISAWA AIR BASE, Japan --  The month of September includes four local and six regional events highlighting Misawa’s thriving host nation relationship and offers attendees opportunities to continue building partnerships among their Japanese neighbors.

Misawa Minato Matsuri (Misawa Port Festival)

Located at the Misawa Fishing Port on Sept. 2, 9:30 a.m. to 8 p.m., and hosted by Misawa City, this event features a local specialties sale, a mini aquarium, Yosakoi dance, boat race, boxing match and fireworks at 7 p.m.

Fiesta Del Sol (Air Fest Eve)

Located at Sky Plaza Misawa on Sept. 8, 1 to 9 p.m., and hosted by Committee of Fiesta Del Sol, the event features food and tequila booths, live music shows, Latin dance and a Tequila lesson by the president of the Japan Tequila Association.

Misawa Kokusai (Misawa Air Fest)

Located at Misawa Air Base on Sept. 9, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., and hosted by the Japan Air Self-Defense Force, the event provides community members the opportunity to see various aircraft, meet military personnel and observe aerial and ground demonstrations. There is an additional family day for all base personnel, dependents and special needs members on Sept. 8, from noon to 4 p.m.

Misawa Chisan-chisho Fair (Local Specialty Festival)

Located in Misawa City at Japan Agricultural Cooperatives Oirase, 16-7, Horiguchi, on Sept. 23, 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and hosted by Misawa City, the event features Misawa’s local specialties, stage events, Japanese comedy show, local hero show and bingo.

Ongaku Takarabako (Family Concert by Colors)
Sept. 2, Towada Shimin Bunka Center; Good for anyone from babies to adults and it’s free!

Shichinohe Autumn Matsuri (Autumn Festival)
Sept. 7 to 9, Shichinohe Town; Float decoration parade, dance performance at main street.

Towada Aki Matsuri (Towada Autumn Festival)
Sept. 7 to 9, Towada main street; Parade of decorated floats, Mikoshi, etc.

Kuroishi Komise Matsuri
Sept. 8 and 9, Kuroishi City main street; Tsugaru shamisen (Aomori-style guitar) performance, Tsugaru daiko (Drums) performance, Yosakoi dance, etc.

Towada Yosakoi Matsuri
Sept. 22 and 23, Towada main street; Yosakoi is a unique and energetic dancing style.

Tanbo Art
Available until Oct. 8, Inakadate Village; Rice paddy art exhibition which this year features “Roman Holiday” and “Character of Osamu Tezuka” for free!
