MISAWA AIR BASE, Japan -- In light of Month of the Military Child, the Lunney Youth Center and Airmen and Family Readiness Center hosted a spring break Junior Boot Camp, April 7, to give youth an inside look of what their parents went through when initially entering the military.
Children filed into the Lunney Youth Center gym and were instantly handed an official personnel folder. As they flipped through the folder they saw several tasks that had to be completed during the in-processing of Junior Boot Camp.
After in-processing the children completed an obstacle course and marched straight into learning basic facing movements from the Robert D. Edgren High School Junior Reserve Officer Training cadets. The 36 children in attendance received a certificate of completion and a personalized dog tag during the closing ceremony.
“The boot camp provided the youth an experience similar to the ones their parents went through when joining the military,” said Jessica Wellmaker, the 35th Force Support Squadron Child and Youth Program Assistant. “The children really enjoyed the event; we hope they gained some insight of what goes on once their parent(s) puts on the uniform.”
