Misawa pilots earn 2015 Mackay Trophy

Mathew Park are awarded the 2015 Mackay Trophy during the National Aeronautic Association fall awards ceremony in Arlington, Virginia, Dec. 8, 2016. The trophy is awarded for the “most meritorious flight of the year by an Air Force person, persons, or organization.” Cohen, Taylor, Kangas and Park earned the trophy by providing air support during a firefight in Hassekah, Syria between friendly Kurdish ground units and Islamic State enemy personnel. Their dedication, professionalism, bravery and airmanship ended a three-month operations in Northern Syria and resulted in the friendly Kurdish retaking 17 thousand squadron kilometers of territory and securing the Syria and Turkey boarder between Iraq and the Euphrates River. Cohen is now assigned to the Air Combat Control Inspector General team at Joint Base Langley-Eustis, Virginia, and Kangas is now a part of the 64th Aggressor Squadron at Nellis Air Force Base, Nevada.
