On November 29, at 1:47 a.m. in the lobby of the Misawa Inn, Misawa Air Base, a U.S. civilian was involved in a physical altercation with two Japanese National employees of Misawa Inn. Air Force Security Forces detained the U.S. civilian and he remains in custody on Misawa Air Base.

One Japanese National employee was injured during the altercation and received initial treatment at the Misawa Urgent Care Center before being transported to a local Japanese hospital for follow-on care. The individual was treated and released.

"This is a regrettable incident and our thoughts are with our two dedicated employees," said Col. R. Scott Jobe, 35th Fighter Wing commander. "They are valued members of our Misawa family. The safety of our personnel is always a top priority."

As matter of longstanding policy, we cannot comment on active investigations. It would be premature and inappropriate to discuss details of the investigation or the nature of the injury at this time; however the worker was not slashed and to report it as such is inaccurate and simply not true.

Further details will be released as they become available.
