Your Ally: First Sergeant The first sergeant's role in the reporting process is to provide referral services for unrestricted reporting of sexual assault when notified. As obligated reporters, they must notify the Air Force Office of Special Investigations and Sexual Assault Response Coordinator once aware of an assault or sexual harassment incident, including the squadron commander for military reporting up the chain of command. First sergeants also monitor and follow-up to ensure members have been referred to a special victims' counsel, been assigned a victim advocate, and encourage the member to consider medical support or mental health, chaplain, family advocacy and military and family life counseling.
