Wild Weasel of the Week: Airman 1st Class Veronique J. Cerda



Each week a member of the 35th Fighter Wing is selected as the Wild Weasel of the Week. This individual is recognized based on superior performance, outstanding work ethic, and overall good conduct and discipline.

The 35th Medical Support Squadron chose Airman 1st Class Veronique J. Cerda, pharmacy technician, as their Wild Weasel of the Week.

What is your daily mission?
Improve quality of life here in Misawa, one pill at a time.

What do you enjoy about your job?
I'm always learning something new. There are thousands of different medications out there for all sorts of things. I love knowing what I do makes a difference and I'm happy to be part of the healthcare team. I like knowing I'm part of something bigger than myself and that what I do contributes to saving lives. 

Why did you choose to serve in the Air Force?
I wanted to be among the best of the best, so the Air Force was for me! I wanted a career that would give my life structure while allowing me to travel and see the world. I also joined for the education benefits. I hope to work on earning a degree while having a stable career and travelling. 

What is your favorite thing about living in Japan?
I really respect the Japanese culture and the country is so beautiful and unique. I get to see the best of both worlds--Japan and the U.S.  It's a learning experience not everyone gets.

Who has been your best mentor and what have they taught you?
Maj. Francisco Boral has taught me you can achieve anything if you work hard enough for it. He started off as an enlisted pharmacy technician Airman and earned his commission as a pharmacist. I'm really inspired by him!

How long have you been stationed at Misawa?
One year

How long have you been in the Air Force?
One and a half years

What goals do you want to meet while at Misawa?
I would like to continue my education and achieve my Community College of the Air Force degree.

What goals do you want to meet during your Air Force career?
I plan to achieve the rank of chief master sergeant one day.

Supervisor's comments on why you were selected:
"Cerda is an exceptional Airman. She's a hard worker, dedicated volunteer and goal-oriented individual. She is always involved in the community or working to improve herself. She's devoted many volunteer hours and much personal time to community organizations. She is constantly seeking ways to improve her leadership abilities and fills important roles. She is our safety representative and timecard program manager. As testament to her superlative skills and attitude as an Airman, she has won the 35th Medical Group Airman of the Quarter, Rock Solid Award and received coins from the squadron commander and Air Force Medical Operations Agency consultant." - Staff Sgt. Krystal Hicks, NCO in charge of outpatient pharmacy.
