I honestly and truly love helping people. I get to interact with so many people on a daily basis, which keeps things interesting.  Things are also in the process of electronically changing and I love being involved in the process to learning it all.

I love the new culture, the seasons and their scenery. The people are also crazy friendly.

Who has been your best mentor and what have they taught you?
My best mentor was a gentleman from my first base, Mr. Kulhmann. He was like a walking encyclopedia. He knew, what seemed like, everything there was to know about his job. It was so inspiring. He also always believed in me, which was motivating.

Because postal is only a temporary special duty, I'd like to take in all that I can about this job. Outside of work, I want to travel in case I don't get the chance to come back to Japan.

What goals do you want to meet during your Air Force career?
I'd like to make chief master sergeant one day but I'd mainly like to leave a lasting impression on people I meet, and continue to adapt to everything thrown at me.

Supervisor's comments:
"From day one I could tell that Senior Airman Maria Steelman stood out from her peers. She is always motivated at work and it rubs off on everyone else which raises the morale of the entire work center. Her motivation is only half of the equation; Steelman is also extremely knowledgeable in all aspects of the post office. She not only masters every section, but also brings ideas to better them. She is the image that comes to mind when I think of a top notch Airman and I am proud to call her my troop. She will have a bright future wherever she goes." -Staff Sgt. Nolan Geiser
