My daily mission is to maintain the base's refueling fleet so fuels maintenance has the assets they need to distribute jet fuel.

What do you enjoy about your job?
I enjoy working, getting my hands dirty and knowing what I do plays a bigger impact than what it seems.

Why did you choose to serve in the Air Force?
I chose to serve in the Air Force because it was the best opportunity for me to get out of my hometown. Where I'm from, people work low end jobs, don't work at all, end up in prison or dead. So the Air Force was a smart move for me.

What is your favorite thing about living in Japan?
My favorite thing about living in Japan is being surrounded by a different culture and seeing how it compares to ours.

Who has been your best mentor and what have they taught you?
I can't say I have a "best" mentor. I take in a lot of knowledge from a lot of people. Everyone has something to offer and teach if you're willing to pay attention and learn.

How long have you been stationed at Misawa?
I've been stationed at Misawa AB for two years. I am undergoing a permanent change of station in April to Nellis Air Force Base, Nevada.

How long have you been in the Air Force?
I've been serving in the Air Force for approximately two and a half years.

What goals do you want to meet while at Misawa?
I want to finish my Community College of the Air Force degree, which I'm going to do in March and win a quarterly award, at least at the squadron level, before I PCS.

What goals do you want to meet during your Air Force career?
I want to finish college as quickly I can so I can commission. That's the long-term end game. If I don't accomplish that, my goal is to be proficient in my career field and serve as a military training instructor.

Supervisor's comments on why you were selected:
"I selected Airman 1st Class Derron Cordero for Wild Weasel of the Week because of his outstanding work ethic and attention to detail.  No matter the task at hand, he always accomplishes it in a timely manner.  Besides his work ethic, he is a go-getter at his education and he keeps fellow peers motivated on the basketball court."  - Staff Sgt. John Stewart, NCO in charge of refueling maintenance
