Crew Chiefs dedicated to maintaining pilot safety

MISAWA AIR BASE, Japan – U.S. Air Force Staff Sgt. Thomas Larson, 14th Aircraft Maintenance Unit crew chief, illuminates a magnetic chip detector while inspecting his assigned F-16 Fighting Falcon at Misawa Air Base, Japan, Dec. 10, 2013. The MCD detects traces of metal particles in the oil system of the aircraft, which helps Larson to determine if the jet is performing at its peak capability. (U.S. Air Force photo by Staff Sgt.
