Keep traffic safety in mind as spring approaches

As spring arrives it is important that we focus on safety.

Spring brings warmer temperatures, wet roads, high winds, blowing dirt and many opportunities for accidents on the road. Now is a good time to check your car's tires, brakes, wiper blades, and windshield washer fluid -- all those things we tend to put off during the winter months.

Each spring in Japan a traffic safety awareness campaign is held. As part of this campaign the Japan Air Self Defense Force, 35th Security Forces Squadron and the 35th Fighter Wing Safety office will be conducting seatbelt checks at the gates. Seatbelts have been proven to save lives. I expect everyone to buckle up every time they get in a car.

Motorcycle riding season began here April 1. I encourage all motorcycle riders to drive defensively.

Finally, I want to remind all bicycle riders, skateboarders and rollerbladers to wear a helmet. This is a community standard and everyone needs to adhere to it.

Thanks for all you do and stay safe Team Misawa.
