SAVANNAH, Ga., (AFPN) -- Diane Hayes hands the phone to her son Kion so he can talk to his father Staff Sgt. Herbert Hayes, stationed at Kunsan Air Base, South Korea. He calls every day to check on his family and talk to his wife and children. Sergeant Hayes received emergency leave after his family was forced to evacuate Keesler Air Force Base, Miss., a day before Hurricane Katrina hit the gulf coast. The Hayes family was forced to evacuate Keesler Air Force Base, Miss., a day before Hurricane Katrina hit the Gulf Coast. Her husband, Staff Sgt. Herbert Hayes Jr., who returned on emergency leave after the storm, remains stationed in South Korea. Feeding the Dragon

BAGRAM AIR FIELD, Afghanistan (AFPN) -- Tech. Sgt. Todd Wilds processes 30mm high-explosive cannon ammunition here using a GFU-7. The machine, sometimes referred to as the "Dragon," separates the brass from the ammunition downloaded from A-10 Thunderbolts and returns the good rounds to another can, making it reusable for reloading onto the combat aircraft. Since Sept. 15, the 455th munitions flight expended more than 23,000 rounds of 30mm ammunition, 15,000 countermeasures, 103 rockets, 14 500-pound air burst bombs and nine laser-guided bombs in support of the ongoing global war on terrorism.
