Many of you may have read articles about the possible federal government shutdown. These articles highlight possible actions the Defense Department may have to take if the current continuing resolution ends Dec. 16 at midnight (U.S. Eastern time).
As of now, the government is still functioning and members of Congress are working diligently to come to a resolution that will keep the doors of government open. We have been through this before, with the last near-government shutdown Dec. 16, 2011.
However, if the federal government shuts down, higher headquarters will instruct us on the actions we are expected to take and this information will filter down through the appropriate channels. We need to keep in mind this will not be a long-term situation and the normal functions of the U.S. government will resume.
