F-16 takeoff

An F-16D Fighting Falcon takes off at Misawa Air Base, Japan, May 4, 2016. The F-16s at Misawa uphold the 35th Fighter Wing’s mission, which is Suppression of Enemy Air Defenses. Pilots aim to destroy surface-to-air missile sites by detecting them through radar and using self-sacrificing maneuvers to draw them away from allied aircraft. The F-16D differs from the F-16B model in that is a two-seat aircraft used for training missions and incentive flights. (U.S. Air Force photo by Airman 1st Class Jordyn Fetter)
